John Brodie Fans Driving New Effort to Get Him in Hall of Fame for 2009

advertisement

John R Brodie, a seventeen year veteran QB with the San Francisco 49ers, is still not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Fans have started a push on the internet to get others to sign an online petition and fax or mail the selection committee in an effort to get his name on the roster for the class of 2009.

Kudos to these industrious fans who want to see that John Brodie is not passed over yet again. With his stats and years of service to San Francisco, John Brodie should have been inducted years ago.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

In a seventeen year career with the San Francisco 49ers, John Brodie was one of the foremost quarterbacks in football. A quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers from 1957 through 1973, John Brodie threw for 31,548 yards and tossed 214 TDs in 201 career games. He appeared in the Pro Bowl in 1965 and 1970. He was named NFL's Most Valuable Player in 1970. The statistics clearly show him to be worthy of the honor of being inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Induction to the Pro Football Hall of Fame is the greatest honor that can be bestowed upon a football player and John Brodie's statistics show him to be worthy of such an honor. He was among the leading passers in the league throughout the 1960's. His best statistical year was 1965 when he led the League in passing average (3,112 yards) and 30 touchdowns. When John Brodie retired from the NFL, he ranked third in career passing yards.

The 49ers and others have recognized Mr. Brodie's outstanding football achievements. The 49ers retired Mr. Brodie's jersey number (12) only to have Trent Dilfer wear the famous #12 again in 2006 to honor Mr. Brodie. Additionally, Mr. Brodie has been inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame.

John Brodie embodies the spirit and heart of the game of football. He raised the bar for quarterbacks and set an example of excellence for many of the greats, like Hall of Fame members Mr. Montana and Mr. Young, who have followed in his footsteps. With his seventeen extraordinary years of loyal dedication, undeniably outstanding statistics, and contributions on the playing field with the San Francisco 49ers, Mr.

Brodie has inspired many admiring fans and has earned the respect of coaches, colleagues, and teammates alike. John Brodie's enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame is long overdue.

Please take a few minutes to support this movement to get a very deserving individual recognized for his successes on the field and efforts in the game.
